SYNCHRONIZE re-score (2001-2006)
Synchronize re-score was a live performance project that featured a DJ re-score of a classic film performed in real-time. Each month Thomas Golubić would tackle a favorite film, curate new music, and perform the mix as a reimagined soundtrack along with the film in real-time with all original dialogue intact.
Highlight moments included Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka singing along to hip hop beats, Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate running to a church along the passionate wails of The Arcade Fire, a modern latin dub soaked mix for the 1960s Cuban propaganda film I Am Cuba, the Conquest of the Planet of the Apes pumped up with black power anthems, the Road Warrior presented with the pounding electro of The Prodigy and classic rock of Motorhead, and the rain-soaked 1970s paranoid thriller Invasion of the Body Snatchers, updating with moody jazz, and Blade Runner re-scored with late 1990s techno and ambient music.
Every month audiences would experience a new film, held in club residencies around Los Angeles, with special Synchronize re-score performances at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen (2003), Dubrovnik Film Festival (2004), Bonnaroo Music Festival (2013) and for the Turner Classic Movies Festival (2016).
